One of my favorite bits of work is covering author events at Central Library in Edinburgh. Working with my colleague Kevin we have been creating a photographic record of all the speakers and interviewers since 2010. Last Thursday was the turn of Jeffery Deaver, the American mystery/crime author being interviewed by Ian Rankin.

I’ve been fortunate to meet quite a lot of incredible writers and artists during my time at the library. Alasdair Gray being a one of Scotlands living icons of art and literature – I even got to polish his glasses for him. Others include Eileen Patterson, the creator of the much loved ‘Masie’ books, the incredible Liz Lochhead, John Sessions, Maggie O’Farrell, Val McDermid and one of my most favorite authors, Chris Brookmyre.

One of these days we hope to finish the project and display it somewhere.
One of the most important things in all of this is to draw attention to the free services and events available through the City of Edinburgh Council, and provide them with some much needed publicity. You can find out more about the events at
